The Antioxidant scan is a cutting edge device used to measure antioxidant levels. At Integrative Vision, we want to make sure our clients have as much information as possible available to make the healthiest choices – not just for their eyes, but for their overall health. Using this small device, we are now able to tell specifically and precisely what your antioxidant levels are and provide you with a personalized report.
How does the scanner work?
The Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner is the world’s first measuring tool that gives you a Skin Carotenoid Score (SCS)—immediate evidence of carotenoid antioxidant activity in your body. By placing the palm of your hand in front of the scanner’s safe, low-energy blue light, within seconds you will obtain a reading of the carotenoid antioxidant levels in your skin—your Skin Carotenoid Scores (SCS)—which has been scientifically correlated to overall antioxidant status.
What should I expect from a scan?
This non-invasive test uses light technology to shine a low energy beam of light particles (photons) into your skin – such as through the palm of your hand. These particular photons are a very specific shade of blue, and when its wavelength meets a carotenoid antioxidant molecule in living tissue, the wavelength changes to one associated with green light instead. This reaction is unique because the only molecule in nature that can change this kind of blue wavelength to green is a carotenoid antioxidant. These green wavelengths are reflected back, and the Scanner calculates their exact number. In less than a minute, the Antioxidant scan can provide you with the most accurate reading of your overall antioxidant levels.
Why are antioxidants important?
Antioxidants are essential because they are the molecules that fight free radicals throughout your body. Free radicals can be very damaging to your healthy cells and can cause diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, to name a few. Your body naturally produces both free radicals and antioxidants, and maintaining a balance is crucial. Although free radicals are harmful when overabundant, they are also part of the way your immune system fights infections. By knowing your antioxidant level through the Antioxidant scan, you can make more informed choices about your health going forward.
